DESERT CHATEAU

Designed around a single object- an antique 18th century French Aubusson rug- Desert Chateau philosophically incorporates the formalist ideas of French chateaux and mid-18th century summer homes through the aesthetic perspective of brutalist Soviet and International-style architectural conventions. Conceived from a concrete object (the Aubusson rug), as well as a constructed narrative of mass societal collapse, perhaps stirred by nuclear war, the architecture elevates domestic decorative objects to high art- coveted for their rarity and aesthetic beauty- a concept surely foreign in the seemingly infinite post-apocalyptic desert environment.
